We had a wonderful stay at Mauna Lani’s Palm Villas I23 in early January 2023. The property’s location was perfect, and Kona Coast Vacations was incredibly responsive and helpful. The villa itself had plenty of room for our family of four (including two teenagers), and we absolutely loved the patio off the living room... really private and wonderfully peaceful. The villa is clearly loved by its owners and is very well taken care of. We must have gone to the pool... even if only for an hour or so... everyday; it’s absolutely gorgeous with incredible landscaping... very Instagrammable. Even though we were there during high season, the pool was never busy. The beach club was a fantastic perk, and while it did get super busy during the day, we had one day at the very end of our holiday... just after the high season rush... when it was almost empty (I’m guessing that’s more the norm). A highlight was walking to the beach most mornings with my daughter (the main reason we picked the Palm Villas over other options in Mauna Lani was its proximity to the beach), grabbing coffees and malasadas on the way (from the stunning Mauna Lani resort), and settling into a set of covered beach chairs while waiting for the boys to drive over with the rest of our gear. The walk through the lava fields and around the fish ponds shouldn’t be missed! The best advice overall for a stay in this area is to research all of your dining options before you go; there aren’t a lot of great options within easy driving distance, especially if you’re figuring it out at the last minute, and those that are available aren’t necessarily worth the high cost of dining out. Our favourites included Pueos Osteria (ate there twice, including NYE – seems to be a local fav) and Tommy Bahamas (had our last dinner there... should have gone sooner... all four of us, including the teenagers, loved it). Shave Ice from OBISIC is a must... as are Acai Bowls from Island Vintage Coffee (both at Kings’ Shops in Waikoloa). Just up the road... Juice 101 and Foodland Farms were frequent stops... the ready meals at Foodland are tasty and great value, but you have to get there early... during high season, they were sold out by 4:30 PM. David from Kona Concierge is also wonderful... if you need to book any activities, go through him!! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Palm Villas again, and we would definitely book with Kona Coast.
